This site exists because musicians deserve to make a living from their music based on how many people own or, for lack of a better term, consume it.  If you are one of the people who support musicians through the purchase of music through traditional or digital formats, you should be proud of your efforts.  You are putting food in the mouths of those musicians and their families and doing your part to ensure that the music keeps flowing.

Yes, there has been change.  Some call it a paradigm shift while others think of it more like mass looting.  Yes, there is a fascinating multi-faceted debate on the morality, legality and creative impact of intellectual property, copyright infringement, file-sharing, information’s desire to be free, the shape of the music business in the face of the digital frontier, possible new or alternate revenue models, etc.

This is not the site for any of it.

For musicians and the people they work with, much of this debate is akin to debating the flavor, quality and price of water during a drought.

We’d like to celebrate the act of buying music and raise awareness of just how positive an effect these sales have on the people making music.  If each person were to download one album a week, they’d have a very impressive collection of over 50 albums by the end of the year that they can keep forever, guilt free, knowing they’ve done their part to support the musicians in question. Many people spend more per week on coffee than they do on music. Brew at home and get a reusable thermos or travel mug and buy an album forever. $9.99 is less than a pizza pie! 3or 4 beers at most! Waaay less than a 3-D movie!

Sign our pledge below to keep buying music and support the people who are making it.  Pick-up a bumper sticker or a t-shirt and let everyone know that you are a patron of the arts. Download our logo and place it on your website, your blog, your Facebook page.  Follow our Twitter feed and let us know whenever you buy music and what you bought. http://twitter.com/ibuymusic

THE PLEDGE:

I pledge to pay for the music I consume.  I have a sense of the depth in which music enriches our lives, both in terms of my own life and as a society.  I recognize that the people who create music and make it available to the public should have some say in how that music is presented and distributed.  I understand that making this music takes time, effort and money and that those people have an inalienable right to earn a living wage from their efforts in proportion to the popularity of the music in question.  I agree to be responsible for my own debt to the musicians whose music I own and the people who work hard to bring that music to me.  As a point of pride, I support musicians.  I BUY MUSIC.

Take the pledge & subscribe to our email list.
